Fort Knox is a United States Army post in Kentucky south of Louisville. The 109,000-acre base covers parts of Bullitt, Hardin, and Meade counties. It currently holds the U.S. Army Armor Center, the U.S. Army Armor School, but it will be transferred to Fort Benning, Ga. and is used by both the Army and the Marine Corps to train crews on the M1 Abrams main battle tank. The history of the base and the tank command is at their General George Patton Museum. Most of the Gold Reserves of the United States are kept at the heavily guarded Bullion Depository since 1937.
