Part of the former Mine Mountain Mining District. All of the workings are in high-angle normal faults trending N.30°E. in brecciated quartzite and silicified dolomite of the Devil’s Gate Limestone in the upper plate of a thrust fault. Claim notices indicate exploration on Mine Mountain in 1928. Mercury, lead, silver, and barium were once mined here. The town of Mercury, established in 1953 by the Atomic Energy Commission, derives its name from this mine.

  • Is the object name printed rightly or there is the misprint here? – isn’t it must be printed «Mercury Mine = Ртутная шахта = Ртутный рудник»? I ask this question on Russian too. Greetings from Russia!
  • Thank you for pointing that out.
