Like other cemeteries in Colma, this cemetery dates to the early 1900s. Woodlawn Memorial Park was established in 1904, though the earliest graves date to 1857, which were moved from former cemeteries in San Francisco, following the 1900 ban on further burials within the city. Woodlawn Memorial Park is a non-sectarian cemetery open to all faiths. Notably, it is the final resting place of Joshua Norton, the local eccentric who styled himself "Emperor Norton I".
