These are the executive department offices of the National Defense Commission (NDC). The National Defense Commission is the executive government organization with control of all military and defense matters in the DPRK. The NDC was once a department committee under the jurisdiction of the Central People's Committee. Changes to the DPRK Constitution in 1992 and 1998, expanded the role and function of the NDC, making it second to the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) as the most powerful branch of government in the DPRK. The SPA nominates the NDC Chairman, who is currently General Kim Jong il. Members of the NDC are drawn from the military, representing either the Ministry of People's Armed Forces (MPAF) or the Korean People's Army (KPA), or from the Korean Workers' Party (KWP).
