The Ministry of People's Armed Forces of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea

The MPAF is currently the immediate subordinate umbrella organization to the National Defense Commission (NDC) with jurisdiction over the Korean People's Army (KPA). The Minister of the PAF serves as one of the the co-chairs of the NDC, and is supported by eight (8) vice-ministers. The General Staff of the MPAF is responsible for the administration of operations of the DPRK's armed forces. The former Minister is vice-marshal Kim Il-chol, of the KPA Naval Command. On 11 February 2009, General Kim Yong-chun was appointed to replace vice-marshal Kim as MPAF.
