Rio Tinto Energy's Spring Creek Mine is a surface coal mine, situated in Montana's portion of the Powder River Basin. Coal from this mine is transported by BNSF Railway to powerplants producing electricity, mostly situated in the Midwest. During 2007, production was 15,712,091 tons, the 11th highest among coal mines in the United States.
