Known as Reservoir Mountain in the early 19th century (for the reservoir which provided the water for the University in its infancy), renamed Observatory Mountain after Jefferson sited an observatory here in the 1820's. Renamed to Mount Jefferson in the 1880's when Leander McCormick Observatory was built here. Still officially named Mount Jefferson, but usually referred to as O-hill (Observatory Hill)
