Historic home of Albert Gallatin, noted politician and Secretary of the Treasury from 1801-1814. Born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1861, Gallatin constructed the original part of the house in 1789. Subsequent additions in 1798, 1845, 1902 and 1903 resulted in the present building.
First elected to the state legislature in 1790, Gallatin served both Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison as Secretary of the Treasury. He was instrumental in arranging the Louisiana Purchase and the Louis and Clark Expedition.
