John Magee's original store was located about 1/4 mile south from Louis Wolf's still-standing general merchandise store. In March 1862, after the Butterfield Overland Mail Company ceased service due to the Civil War, Magee closed his original store and moved it to this location in Rainbow Canyon.

  • I don't believe the remains are of a Native American sturcture. The remains are of an adobe structure along a Stage Coach route. The remains were at one time very clearly of Adobe brick but have been damaged over time by weather and vandals. The structure is located on the property of an old ranch and I've been told that it was a mercantile store at one time. I remember the ranch being called Simonelli ranch. When I first explored the property in the early 1980's there was an abandoned house, a large barn, a large tomb of the Wolff family, and a number of old wooden wagons on the property. The house burnt down in the 90's and the wagons were eventually stolen. The tomb is still standing and is located on the other side of the river bed with a housing tract built around it. I lived next door to this ranch for most of my childhood.
