Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, originally La Misión de San Luis, Rey de Francia ("The Mission of Saint Louis, King of France") was named for King Louis IX. Known as the "King of the Missions," it was founded on June 13, 1798 by Father Fermín Francisco de Lasuén as the eighteenth in the chain of Spanish Missions in California, and the last founded by Father Lasuén. It is located in Oceanside, California, in northern San Diego County, in what was the Spanish First Military District.
