"Old Mastic House" (Mastic Beach, New York)

USA / New York / Mastic Beach / Mastic Beach, New York
residence, farmhouse, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places

The ancestral home of William Floyd (b.1734), the Suffolk County signer of the Declaration of Independence, and American Revolutionary War General. Nicoll Floyd built the first dwelling, a two-story, shingled, wood framed house in the 1720's, known as the "Old Mastic House". It expanded as the family grew. Large additions were built in the 1750's, 1790's, 1850's, 1890's, and 1920's.

The 25-room house with furnishings represent every generation, the twelve outbuildings, the family cemetery and the 613 acres of forest, fields, marsh and trails all graphically illuminate the layers of history.
