Built in 1940, Compton Hall was dedicated in 1947 to the memory of Margaret Compton, an 1866 alumna of the Edinboro State Normal School and member of the science faculty until 1892. Between 1941 and 1960 it served as one of the Borough of Edinboro's public school buildings, and in 1960 housed elements of the University's education department, as well as a laboratory school. It currently houses the departments of speech and communication studies and psychology. The facility also houses the avian research laboratory and other laboratories associated with the speech and communication studies program.
