Loading and unloading site of the experimental 3 megawatt air-cooled nuclear reactor onto a specially modified Convair X-6 bomber for evaluation and experimentation to develop a nuclear-powered jet aircraft.

Though the X-6 carried out 47 test flights between July 1955 and March 1957 with the reactor fully operational for 89 flight hours, the plane never flew under direct nuclear power and the project was eventually abandoned.
