railway, tunnel
This was the location of the first tunnel on the Union Pacific Railroad, which built across Wyoming through here in 1868. Mary's Creek Tunnel was 680 miles from Omaha, and had a length of 215'. During 1900 UP built a new line passing through Hanna, leading to the abandonment of this section of the Transcontinental Railroad. When the line was completed between Omaha and California in 1869, there were 4 tunnels on Union Pacific's portion of the route.
