The Andrew J. Freedman Home, a block-long Italian Renaissance mansion built at 166th Street by a former owner of the New York Giants baseball team, opened in 1924 as a home for the formerly wealthy who had suffered reverses. It was designed by Joseph Freedlander with Harry Allan Jacobs, the interior was decorated by L. Alavoine & Co. Metalwork was fabricated by Ferro Studio.

Today, the future of the building, owned by the Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council, a nonprofit group, is in doubt. Only the basement of the four-story building is in use, by a variety of social service providers.
