James Earl Rudder was a United States Army Major General, Texas Land Commissioner, Sixteenth President of Texas A&M University in 1959 and the Third President of the Texas A&M University System in 1965. He held this position until the time of his death in 1970.
In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson presented him with the Distinguished Service Medal, the highest peacetime service award.
