Trinity School Annex Building

USA / New Jersey / West New York /
 school, 2017 construction

3-story modernist school building completed in 2017. Designed by Rogers Partners, the bulk of the structure fronts 92nd Street, with a narrow strip extending south, through to 91st Street, where it has an entrance set in a glass-and-metal curtain wall. This also serves to connect the Lower and Middle Schools, and houses a staircase. The north section houses a parking garage, cafeteria, administrative suite, performing arts spaces, classrooms and science laboratories, and is topped by a 21,000-square-foot playground and playing field on the roof. The annex is an expansion of the earlier 1-story parking and cafeteria facility that was built in the 1960s.

The north facade on 92nd Street is clad in small panels of textured, grey slate, with very thin, vertical metal bars in between, slightly overhanging the ground floor, which has a near-continuous band of vertical metal louvers above a low base of brown brick. There is a brick end column at the far east end, and next to it the ground floor has two sets of grey metal service doors. The louvers are also interrupted near the center by a recesed entrance and exit to the parking garage, and toward the west by a recessed set of service doors, and a set of louvered gates. At the far west end the ground floor is all brick, with a final set of service doors.

The upper floors have many bays of windows in varying widths, subdivided into panes of varying widths by razor-thin white metal mullions. At both ends is a 2-story vertical-stacked window spanning both floors. Visible on the roof are the arched steel braces that span the playing field.
