Constructed in 1909 by architect James Knox Taylor, this historic building was a former US Post Office until its relocation to a larger facility at 100 South Thornton Avenue in 1986. Months after the post office moved out, this building was renovated to house the Dalton Public Schools administration offices. It was then relocated to the second and third floors of the Dalton City Hall on April 19, 2010. On October 28, 2011, the building was once again renovated to house the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce and The Carpet and Rug Institute, Inc. Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce was relocated to this building on June 11, 2012, its original location was located at 890 College Drive near I-75, while The Carpet and Rug Institute, Inc. was relocated this building in July 2012, its original location was located at 730 College Drive, which is only half a mile from the original chamber of commerce building.
