apartment building, commercial building
90-foot, 9-story residential building completed in 1917. Designed by Denby & Nute, it is clad in limestone, rusticated at the 2-story base. The facade is seven bays wide, alternating narrow and wide openings. The central entrance has many-paned wood-and-glass double-doors flanked by paneled pilasters with a cornice, below a rounded green canvas canopy. The entrance is set within a double-height molding that also encloses a tripartite window at the 2nd floor. To the left are a glass door and a wide and narrow display-window for a storefront, and to the right are another glass door and wide display-window, with a service entrance in the east end bay. The rest of the bays have single-windows in the narrow bays and triple-windows in the wide ones, including on the floors above the base, all with simple stone sills. The base is capped by a band course.
The 4th & 6th floors have projecting stone balconies at the center bay, carried on a keystone and two brackets, with metal railings. Matching balconies are located at the outer wide bays on the 5th & 7th floors. Another band course sets off the top two floors, which are faced in stone blocks instead of the smooth ashlar of the midsection. The piers have projecting sections that narrow slightly at the tops, capped by stylized capitals below a frieze of metopes and roundels that underline the bracketed green copper roof cornice.
The east elevation is clad in plain, buff brick with single-windows at the front of the top three floors. The building contains 52 apartment units. The ground floor is occupied by Stage Star Deli, and Alejandro Shoe Repair.
