664-foot, 58-story postmodern mixed-use building completed in 1983. Designed by Der Scutt of Swanke Hayden Connell, it is clad in a black glass curtain wall. The building serves as the headquarters for The Trump Organization. Additionally, it houses the penthouse condominium residence of the building's namesake and developer, U.S. President Donald Trump, who was a businessman and real estate developer when the tower was developed.

The lowest six floors contain an atrium, followed by 13 office floors above it, and 39 condominium floors above the office floors. To make Trump Tower stand out from the "boxy" International Style buildings being erected at the time, Scutt designed the tower as a 28-faced edifice with an "inverted pyramid of cubes" at the base. The tower's 263 condominiums attracted many rich and famous residents, including Johnny Carson, David Merrick, Sophia Loren, and Steven Spielberg.

The building's main entrance is on Fifth Avenue, with a side entrance on 56th Street only for residents. Above the recessed main entrance is a logo with 34-inch-high brass capital letters in Stymie Extra Bold font, which reads "TRUMP TOWER".

The atrium features a 60-foot-high internal waterfall along the eastern wall that is spanned by a suspended walkway, shops, and cafes. The atrium, legally a privately operated public space (POPS), is bedecked in marble, which has been described as "rosy and yellow," and is crowned with a skylight. The atrium comprises the northern part of a two-block pedestrian plaza between Fifth and Madison Avenues, connecting to the atrium at 550 Madison Avenue (formerly the AT&T Building). A Gucci store occupies the southwest corner of the base. Above the lower three floors, the stepped cubes at the southwest corner are each topped by a tree. The tower’s sawtooth plan on the southwest significantly reduces its visual massing and also creates more corner windows.
