 office building, 1927_construction

224-foot, 18-story Neo-Classical/Art-Deco office building completed in 1927 (renovated 2004). Designed by Buchman and Kahn, the most prominent feature are the undulating and projecting brick pilasters that extend from the 4th through 28th floors on the south facade. It has a high 2-story base of white stone, with red granite framing the entrance and at the bases of the piers. Black iron metalwork fills the spandrels between the floors in the window bays on either side of entrance. The 3rd floor is transitional, with decorative stonework at the tops of the piers, and a broad, scalloped stone band course across the top of the floor. The five projecting brick pilasters spring forth from this band course.

The rest of the upper floors are also clad in brown brick, with stone sills under the windows, and corbelled brick panels in the spandrels around the pilasters. Narrow stone band courses also run across every 3rd floor, angling over the pilasters. The facade ends in a simple parapet, with the pilasters in the center rising slightly above and terminating in finials, with smaller finials between each one. The ground floor on Park Place is occupied by Park Place Fine Jewelry, Sabor de Mexico restaurant, Best of the Best Deli, and Little Italy Pizza.

The north elevation on Murray Street is also clad in brown brick and white stone, but somewhat simpler. The more austere base has a smaller secondary entrance, and there is a small dentiled cornice above the 2nd floor. The upper floors have narrow brick pilasters, but they don't project out as they do on the south side. The stone band courses at every third floor are also seen on the north facade, which has a series of shallow setbacks at the top floors. The ground floor on Murray Street is occupied by Agoda Asian restaurant, and Muscle Maker Grill.
