DSNY Repair Shop - Manhattan

USA / New Jersey / Weehawken / Eleventh Avenue, 231
 national government / government, garage

3-story building completed in 1992 for the Borough of Manhattan Repair Shop of the Department of Sanitation. Fronting 11th avenue is a plain facade, with a white brick 2nd-3rd floor, grey brick band across the top of the ground floor, and light brown brick ground floor with four large vehicle entrances with roll-down metal shutters. A curved metal framework is on the roof. The building wraps around the much older B&O Warehouse in an L-shape. On the north and west facades, it has beige brick on the top two floors, with the ground floor having bands of grey, brown, and light brown brick. The walls curve inward at the main entrance on 26th Street, with a central bay of windows above. At the corner of 26th and 12th Avenue, the building is rounded, with blue-tinted expanses of windows above the ground floor. There are more rounded elements along the 12th Avenue facade, with a vehicle entrance, and more blue-tinted window bands on the upper floors, which are set back.

The building is occupied by mechanics’ facilities and office space. An average of ten vehicles or pieces of machinery arrive and leave the facility each day.
