abandoned / shut down, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), train station
Reading's Spring Garden train station, located along the Reading Viaduct, the former alignment of its mainline. After the reading declared bankruptcy, SEPTA/Conrail took control of all Reading passenger operations.
The station was closed on November 6, 1984 (along with the Reading Terminal) when the final track connections were made for the then-new Center City Commuter Connection, which was a major realignment of the main line that ran underground via a tunnel and connected with the former PRR system at Suburban Station.
This station was replaced by the nearby Temple University train station to the north.
