Interstate 20 runs from west Texas to South Carolina. At an interchange with I-10 in a remote area of west Texas (near Kent, TX), I-20 begins its trek eastward. It passes through Midland and Odessa, then on to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex (where it runs on the south side of both cities). It takes traffic through Shreveport, LA; Jackson, MS; and Birmingham, AL. It continues east through Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC. I-20 ends at I-95 exit 160B (I-20 exit 141) west of Florence, SC.

US Highway 49 goes through only two states - Arkansas and Mississippi. It begins at US 62 in Piggott, AR. From Piggott, it goes through Jonesboro and crosses I-40 and into Mississippi near Helena, AR. It continues through Clarksdale and Jackson (where it is duplexed with I-220). US 49 passes through Hattiesburg and ends at US 90 in Gulfport, MS.
