My son was born there in 1972 I worked part of my time in the brig canoe club. We lived for a while in the mobile homes at the back of the Naafi. I used to chain the safety boat up in Kladow and be in work 15 minutes later or go by bus and walk 1 and 3/4 hrs on a bad day and 3/4 on a good on. Rocking horse was a pain in the arse. I used to be at the canoe club even if I wasn't.

My brother Malcolm and I were stationed in Monty Bks, Berlin for the whole tour 1972 - 1974 and my sister Joyce was married to Cpl Roy French and their Daughter Tina was born there. Roy and Joyce French took over the running of the British Berlin Yacht Club on the Havel and we all spent many happy hours there and also visiting the German Yacht Clubs at the week-ends travelling over the havel in what was called a stink boat. My sister Joyce managed to get her Helmsman for sailing, good gal. Berlin what a Stadt, I enjoyed visiting all over and I even got lost once and I can tell you that was very exciting. I would have those days again. On a finishing note I can truly say "Ich bin ein Berliner" Regards to all.

The monument is ugly. Moreover the place is absolutely wrong for it, it destroys the style of the city being put here. Looks terrible, the composition is close to 0.

Those are extremely dumb comments. Germany has moved on. In Germany, they are embarrassed about a lot of the 20th century history. Don't even TRY to mock it. I know someone who made a Hitler gesture at an airport in Los Angeles without realizing he was in front of a crowd of German tourists. He was almost beaten up. Don't even try it at the Brandenburg gate.

retracting and correcting my previous comment - the placemark is where the 'old' Reich Chancellery was located. Hitler's 'new' Reich Chancellery was her plus to the left/west, along the Voss Strasse (where I put another placemark)
