This small, steep-sided pond, located just off Rangers Road in Chingford, is a crater formed by a German V2 rocket which exploded here in 1945 during the Second World War. The pond was once a popular 'swimming hole' for local youths.

Comments

  • I have heard this from the 1960's but the crater is not marked on the interactive V2 bomb sites map
  • Was in school on Forest Side at the time, the ceiling came down and the teacher told us to cycle home quickly.
