 fishing area, lake

Excellent place to catch Bass. This lake is stocked and in the next 3 to 5 years will be a fishing hot spot (if the water levels stay high and the mercury levels stay low!!). This lake is shallow and recovering from drought and an extensive clean-up.

May 2007 - drought in Florida and another sinkhole cause the lake to drain again.

This lake has a sinkhole that opens up every 25 years or so and drains it. In the past it would remain drained for a year or two until some dead trees and other debris plugged the drain, then it would refill. Now it's been dry for many years because it's kept pristine, there are no dead trees or debris to fall into the sinkhole and plug it. It will never refill until this policy changes. Perhaps the best solution, since there's no chance that this heavily populated area will ever return to its natural state, would be to build a berm around the sinkhole with a floodgate and spillover. When the floodgate is closed, the lake would fill to the level of the spillover. Every couple of decades, the floodgate could be opened to allow the lake to drain to emulate its natural cycle.
