Astra Film Studio, House Piata Mica No12

Romania / Sibiu / Piața Mică / Small Square, 12
cinema, Renaissance (architecture), Gothic (architecture), listed building / architectural heritage, 16th century construction, 15th century construction

Today it is the office of the “ Cornel Irimie” Centre of Information and Documentation, The Astra Film Studio and a part of the laboratories belonging to CNM Astra.
The present building date back in the XVth century, being one of the first houses built on the traces of the first fortification wall belonging to the first fortified precinct (12-13th century)
As evidenced by archaeological excavations carried out in 1996 under the direction of archaeologist Beşliu Petre Munteanu, on the site of the present building was a wooden house. This was based on a coin dated from the time of Béla IV of Hungary (1235-1270), specifying the finding and the previous existence of a moat.
The second floor room towards Huet Square has an arched vaulted niche apparently being the place of a statue, the room initially being a chapel.
