Cuney Homes is a public housing development located at 3260 Truxillo Street in the Third Ward neighborhood of Houston, Texas. It was the first public housing project opened by the Houston Housing Authority (HHA) in 1938. The complex is named in honor of Norris Wright Cuney, a prominent African-American leader in Texas during the late 19th century.


Cuney Homes has undergone extensive rehabilitation in its lifetime; in 1997, the HHA's design and modernization work won a National Award of Merit from the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials.

Birthplace of Black Lives Matter martyr George Floyd.
