This Second System fortification was erected in 1808-1809. It consisted of a circular battery of stone, mounting four heavy guns, covered by a blockhouse. It was planned to be modernized under the Third System.
As of 1851, it was intended to be armed with five 32-pounder seacoast guns, twenty-one 24-pounder guns, three field pieces, four 8" heavy seacoast howizters, one 13" mortar and two 10" heavy mortars, for a total of 36 guns.
