McGraw Glass Plant (Detroit, Michigan)

Previously a Chrysler facility and later independent which made auto glass for GM, Ford, and Chrysler.The original plant was constructed in 1916 by the Saxon Motor Car Company as an auto parts manufacturing facility. The Industrial Terminal Corporation acquired the plant in 1917, and sold it to General Motors. The building was known as the LaSalle Plant during its operation by General Motors. The land as well as the old and new buildings are owned by Comprehensive Logistics.

Chrysler acquired the plant in 1936 for the production of the DeSoto automobile. In 1960 Chrysler converted the plant into an auto glass processing facility, and it became know as the McGraw Glass Plant. In 2004 the plant was sold to a Southfield, Michigan investment group who leased it to a Tier One automobile supplier. The plant closed in 2007. Numerous additions and modifications were made during its more than 90 years of use. Part of the plant was designed by the well known Albert Kahn Group of Detroit. The facility was demolished in 2011.
