Breiter Luzin is in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in the district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, in Ostmecklenburgische. It is a glacial tongue basin lake formed by the last ice age. The lake is northeast of Feldberg in Feldberg Lakes Park. It is about 3.3 km by 1.8 km, and averages 22.3 m deep. A maximum depth of 58.3 meters, makes it the second deepest lake in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The lake is (almost) divided by the Mönkenwerder headland, into two parts. The western part is much larger and deeper. The eastern part is Lake Lütter, significantly smaller and flatter, has a central island, and is up to 7.5 meters deep. The shore (of Breiter Luzin?) is steep and wooded on the west bank, while the eastern shore is flatter and reedy. In the Great Lake(?), the Tiefenmaräne (a species of river mussel) is housed in force(bred in captivity?) because it is now very rare in Germany.
