RETREAT (Resource Efficient TERI Retreat for Environmental Awareness and Training) is TERI's vision of building a sustainable habitat. The 36-hectare TERI campus constructed about three years ago at Gual Pahari, Gurgaon, is a lush green habitat, 30 km south of Delhi, in the northern state of Haryana. Built as a model training complex, RETREAT demonstrates efficient utilization of energy, sustainable and integrated use of both natural resources and clean and renewable energy technologies, and efficient waste management. Some of its key green features are highlighted ahead. With a built-up area of 3,000 square metres, this 30-room training hostel boasts of conference facilities for 100 people, dining space and kitchen, recreational area, computer room and a library. What makes it unique is the total independence it enjoys from the city's grid system, and near-complete freedom from city services and infrastructure
