The Victoria Cross Public House located in John Cornwall street. This pub is named to remember Mr. John Travers Cornwall (after whom the street is named) who at the age 16 became the second youngest person ever to receive the Victoria Cross for his heroic actions during the battle of Jutland in 1916. Despite 8 of his 10 man crew being dead, he remained at his post aboard HMS Chester awaiting orders that sadly never came.

John was originally buried in a common grave, but there was such a public outcry at this that he was re-interned at Manor Park Cemetery
