Walnut Ridge AFS became operational in 1956. Located at what was the former Walnut Ridge Army Air Field, it was home to the 725th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron. In March 1963 the Air Force ordered this site to close. Operations ceased in August 1963.
The former Army Airfield is now the Walnut Ridge Municipal Airport. Parts of the old radar site are now used by a footwear company.
The housing area is on the other side of the runway.
