The original tenants of this two-story, Asian-theme structure were the Gee Goon Tong, famous for their help in plotting the 1912 revolution that made China a republic. The Chinese Benevolent Society was founded as an outgrowth of the Tong in 1920 to protect the interests of the local Chinese community.
