Approximate location of the remains of the CSS Virginia. The CSS Virginia was an ironclad warship of the Confederate States Navy. She is most famous for her engagement with the USS Monitor At the Battle of Hampton Roads. Since her draft kept her from going up the James River, and she was not seaworthy. She was scuttled May 11, 1862 to keep her from falling into union hands.
