Also known as Painted Cave, located in the Amistad National Recreation Area, this is a 50m semi-circular rock overhang (like half of a dome) that collectively contains about 2 square meters of prehistoric paintings, and a similar amount of historic graffiti. The pre-historic paintings include an irregular (wavy) lattice in yellow, outlined in red, perhaps .2m x .3m; a larger painting of an unidentifiable object (about .5m x.15m); and numerous smaller paintings distinguished by closely spaced red lines (hatching). The painting style is said to be unique to the Pecos/ lower Rio Grande Canyon area. In April 2009 there was a foating boat dock; several small interpretive notices in English (only); about 50m of trail, "paved" with rubber matting in the steep parts, and a sign claiming photographic surveillance, though there was no apparent evidence of a device. Pleasant surroundings, vegetation, and a good place to get out of the sun, and view the opposite shore.
