At this place in the Kremlin was located the most ancient Moscow church - Cathedral of the Transformation of the Savior at the Pine Tree built in approximately 1330. Moscow princes and princesses were here buried until the role of royal buiral site switched to the Arkhangel'sk cathedral and the Voznesensky monastery (also destroyed).

The church was dismantled on Stalin's order on 1 May 1933. There is the legend, according to which the fate of unique temple solved the servility of Stalin officials. Supposedly once Stalin went by in his car, and he saw from the window, that next to the temple was a pile of firewood firewood. “It's a disgrace, remove it! “- he growled. Of course, no one dared to question him or ask again; they quickly arranged for the removal, not only of the firewood, but also the church.

Later on the spot of this ancient Cathedral, they built wing with the toilets, canteens and storage.
