The walls are up on this new elementary school, it is scheduled to open August 2011. It's address will be 450 Kernan Blvd, named Waterleaf Elementary, #160. The school is located in School Board District 1, served by Martha Barrett. DCPS and WG Mills, Inc. will construct the $18.6 million, 98,000-square foot facility that was designed by Bhide & Hall, and will accommodate 800 students in the kindergarten through fifth grade.

With the Federal Government’s approval of American Revitalization and Recovery Act (ARRA) funding this year, the School Board was able to utilize federal funding through the ARRA program to construct the school. The schools primarily affected by the new school would be Abess Park, Alimacani, Chets Creek, Lone Star, Kernan and Sabal Palm. Other possible school affected would also be Finegan, Mayport, Neptune Beach, San Pablo and Seabreeze.

This will make 3 elementary schools all less than a mile apart of each other. The 4th one within 2 miles apart..
