The late Ernest E. Anders developed Southside Estates and named the main streets after U.S. Generals. He also developed the first shopping center in the Southeast USA in 1948 (before that everyone shopped downtown). Old timer residents of Southside Estates remember paying their water bills to Anders' Beach Blvd Utility Company. Anders' grandson, Earl Anders, now lives in Daytona Beach but has memories when as a young boy he spent my summers with his grandfather while Southside Estates was being built.
