308-foot, 17-story building containing State of Illinois offices. Functions as a second capital of Illinois. The building was designed by Helmut Jahn opened in 1985. The center's floors wrap around a huge cylindrical atrium culminating in a sloping skylight roof. There are craft stores and art galleries among other offerings inside. Its interior was designed by Vickery/Overset/Awsumb Associates.

"Bridgeport" (by John Henry,1984, painted aluminium) sculpture can be seen in the foyer of the Thompson Center.
