Formerly the James R. Thompson Center, built as a 308-foot, 17-story building containing State of Illinois offices. The building was designed by Helmut Jahn in 1985. The center's floors wrap around a huge cylindrical atrium culminating in a sloping skylight roof. There are craft stores and art galleries among other offerings inside. Its interior was designed by Vickery/Overset/Awsumb Associates. "Bridgeport" by John Henry (1984) could be seen in the foyer of the Thompson Center.

After functioning as a de-facto second capital of Illinois, the building was sold to Google to become their Chicago headquarters.
