The American Ambassador’s home, “Lornado,” is located in Rockcliffe Village and overlooks the Ottawa River. It has been the Official Residence of the U.S. Chief of Mission in Canada since 1935 when it was purchased by the U.S. Government.

Built in 1908 by Warren Y. Soper, founder of the Ottawa Electric Railway Company, the 32-room, 2 1/2 storey limestone “cottage” was named after Soper’s favorite literary heroine, Lorna Doone.

The mansion sits amid 3.65 hectares of manicured grounds and currently ranks as the most valued diplomatic residence in Ottawa with a 2009 assessed worth of CAN $17.38 million.
