The oldest part of Hull. This neighbourhood has a bit of a seedy reputation, and does have a large number of low-income housing units. However, the City of Gatineau has identified this area as the downtown core, and has been taking many steps towards re-inventing its image and revitalizing the neighbourhood with newer housing and business developments. Île-de-Hull features the Museum of Civilization, the federal government offices (Portage and Chaudière), a strip of bars and clubs on Promenade de Portage which attracts a large clientele, and a few parks.
