1-story police station which is used as New York City Police's Times Square sub-station. It was originally built as the Times Square Information Center in 1957. It featured an artistic mosaic map of New York City on either side which were created Edward Meshekoff. It was converted to a police substation at the tail end of the area's high-crime era. In keeping with the "Times Square" style, the facility uses lit neon lettering to spell out "New York Police Dept". This office is exceptionally busy during New Year's Eve festivities, but also must keep constant watch for terrorist threats to the famous landmark site. A police substation was first opened in Times Square in 1977, in a different location. The small building here was remodeled in 2016.
