Calapi came from a word “Kalapi”, a Rattan species that abundantly grown in the area. Before the Spanish era, its indigenous inhabitants came from different places that settle there as an ideal place for cultivating lands through Kaingin. They are sometimes called taga bukid or bukidnon. They people are being feared because of some bandits residents engaged in robbery.

In 1915, the US government distributed Land Tittles to the beneficiary. Informal school was established by Spanish and American missionary teaching Spanish and English vocabulary. They also introduced simple mathematics and science. Students write their lessons in banana leaves.
The area is good for agriculture as it is located between two rivers. During rainy seasons, floods brought many minerals that add nutrients to the soil ideal for agriculture particularly at “Lanasan Area”. When the flood subsided, many fishes and shells remains trapped that greatly help the need for protein in diet of the populace.
