Thornton Tunnel, CN’s forth longest at 3.4 km (2.04 miles), is under the very eastern fringes of Vancouver and northwestern Burnaby. Opened in 1969, the bore at its deepest is about 45 metres (144 feet) below the surface.
The southern end of the tunnel is at Dawson Street just west of Rosser Avenue in Burnaby. The northern portal is just east of the Second Narrows highway bridge, above the CPR tracks on the south side of Burrard Inlet.
