Rail facility for intermodal traffic named in honor of John Whitaker, Southern Railway's (later NS) first African-American promoted Road Foreman of Engines(locos).
Ably and gently directed his men to operate the railroad safely and competently, not only for his sake, but for everyone who came into contact with the railroad, whether shipper, passenger, or John Q. Public. He was a true gentleman, admired by many, liked by all, and an unassuming credit to humanity.
