The Institute made modest start with 75 students in conventional branches like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical for under graduate programmes initially and was affiliated to the Bombay University. From June 1950 onwards, it has been affiliated to the Gujarat University.
In June 1955, admission seats were increased to 150 which were further increased to 300 in 1957. From June 1963, Degree and Diploma institutions were separated administratively. Post Graduate Programme in Electrical Engineering was introduced in 1954. Post Graduate course in Mechanical Engineering was started from June 1963 in the area of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. Post Graduate course in Civil Engineering was introduced in June 1970 in Soil Engineering, Structural Engineering and in Public Health Engineering in June 1972. Since then, the institute has undergone continuous growth in magnitude, diversity and accomplishments.
To meet with the demands of the industries, Masters Programmes in Computer Aided Structural Analysis and Design and Water Resources Management were introduced in 1986.

  • WOW !! What pride in declaring that we had cosed down CEPT university once !! Kudos for that !!! there couldn't have been nething better to do than that. I am a pass out from this very college and I don't think I am proud of our illustrious history of strikes and strifes... not to forget the equally iluminous General secretary who was caught cheating and then called a strike to bar every other student from giving the exam... SUCH ACT OF SHAME AND COWARDICE.... We take proud in telling people that we got a good alumni base in US universities... Well if u get admission in a 3rd tier university in the US (where only Indians and Pakis exist) whats the BIG DEAL !!! Why can't we accept the fact that We have lost the charm...

  • Hey guys and gals, LD rocks. The lucky ones get here to get their career shaped and their life carved in a golden name for future. My name is Jay Shah. I am a 2007 batch student of BE Civil Engineering. Currently doing my MS but i miss the golden days i used to have in LD. I miss the warmth of secureness it used to give me. LD is the best engineering college in Gujarat and one of the best in India. All i can say is that i am proud to be an LDite.
